I have tryout wonderful lamp. I am getting ready to move. I put it together but I have forgotten how the pole connects to the base. Is it screwed in?

Yes it has a screw that goes in the bottom of the pole, to pen that you need to take the mag light out turn the unit on the side and open the screw from the bottom of the base.(You need Hex Allen Wrench)
